NEWS: ADRIAMOVE: Electric mobility as a cornerstone of sustainable development in the EU and the Adriatic-Ionian Region

Electric vehicles have become one of the key tools of the European Union in combating climate change. Under the European Green Deal, the EU aims to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050, and the transition towards e-mobility is a vital element of that vision. In this context, ADRIAMOVE, financed through the Interreg IPA ADRION Programme, represents a significant step forward for all participating partners in enhancing sustainable, interoperable, and environmentally friendly transport solutions.

The project brings together partners from Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro with a clear objective: to develop multimodal mobility systems, test new electric and low-emission transport models, and improve access to sustainable transportation for residents and visitors across the region.

Why electric vehicles?

Electric mobility provides strong benefits in terms of:

  • reducing CO₂ emissions and air pollution,
  • improving quality of life in urban areas,
  • supporting the development of smart and sustainable cities,
  • increasing energy efficiency and promoting renewable energy use.

These advantages align directly with the aims of ADRIAMOVE, particularly within the development of pilot actions and the integration of electric bicycles, electric minibuses, tuk-tuk vehicles, and charging infrastructure – tailored to the needs of each participating country

ADRIAMOVE and European Policies

The project directly contributes to key European strategies and frameworks:

  • European Green Deal – supporting cleaner, smarter, and more efficient mobility systems.
  • EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) – strengthening connectivity and enabling greener tourism through sustainable transport solutions.
  • EU Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy – encouraging the uptake of electric mobility and development of intelligent transport infrastructures.

Moving towards a sustainable future

Electric mobility is not only a technological innovation but also a societal shift toward cleaner, safer, and better-connected communities. Through ADRIAMOVE, partners across the region are jointly working to ensure that sustainable mobility becomes a standard rather than an exception.

Together, we are paving the way for a greener and more resilient future for the Adriatic-Ionian region and contributing to the broader European transition toward climate neutrality.
